My vision for WalesWales, like Europe, is full of diversity and this richness of social and cultural tradition must be supported by the EU. Wales can meet the challenge of globalisation, and changes in industry and farming with effective regional policies and the right leadership. I want to see a Wales that is seen as an example for small nations across Europe - economically successful, generating new jobs, healthy, well educated, outward looking and international, with a strong embedded Welsh culture, and self sufficient in energy, harnessing the tidal power of the Severn estuary and rejecting the use of nuclear power. My vision for EuropeFor too long the European Union has been seen as elitist and bureaucratic. We have to change that image and change the way Brussels works and by telling people what the EU can do or has done to make our lives better. The EU has led the way on major issues such as equal pay and on environmental policies to mitigate the effects of climate change The EU can play a very significant role in strengthening the security of our food supplies and in providing greater energy security Already hundreds of thousands of Welsh people have chosen to work or live in the EU, but outside the UK, which is their right as EU citizens. Thousands of Welsh students have studied at other EU universities thanks to the EU. The EU has underwritten the peace and prosperity most of us have enjoyed since 1945. We have to build on this legacy and to make the EU more people-centred and user-friendly.
