Liberal Democrat Minister of State for Pensions, Steve Webb MP, was in Washford on Friday (11th March) as guest speaker at the first Bridgwater and West Somerset "Meet the Minister" event.
The Minister spoke to a large group of members about his work in Government and the successes Liberal Democrats were having implementing many of the party's key policy priorities. In particular, the Minister said, it had given him great pleasure to sign the order restoring the link between average earnings and state pensions. This could mean a substantial increase in pensions in the future.
The Minister answered a range of questions on specific policies, ranging from pensions to the NHS and student finance.
Theo Butt Philip, who was the Liberal Democrat candidate in Bridgwater and West Somerset at last year's General Election said:
"I am delighted that we were able to welcome one of the first ever Liberal Democrat Ministers to West Somerset. It is important that people are given the opportunity to speak to Liberal Democrat Ministers in Government, both to find out what is being done and to have the opportunity to make sure our views are heard by those in power."
Kay Barnard, Chair of the Bridgwater and West Somerset Liberal Democrats said:
"It is wonderful to see that we local Liberal Democrats have the chance to influence, even in a small way, policies that can help ordinary people who work hard. I will continue to work to get more Liberal Democrats elected so that in future we can improve the lives of more people".
